How to Arrange the Content on Your Website

Transcript

Hi, and welcome to another Sunburnt video tutorial. In this video we're going to show you how to arrange and organise your website.

It's particularly important to keep your website neat and logical because this makes it easier for your visitors to quickly find what they are looking for. So here we are on the demo server, and the first thing we're going to do is rearrange the menu slighty.

To do that, we use the organiser, which can be found under the 'Website' menu. The organiser loads a sidebar on the right of the screen which you can use to move or delete any of the content on your website. For example, we can use the arrows to move the Products folder to be before the Photos. The website is updated immediately and we can see that this change is reflected in the menu.

We usually want to put the most important links on the left because this gives them more prominance. It's also a good idea to limit your menu to eight links because too many can create confusion. If you need more links, you can use a dropdown menu such as the one you can see here for the products. Please see the video on creating dropdowns to learn how to do this.

So let's just move the contact page down, for good measure. And next we're going to look at different options for arranging the contents of your folders. When we open the News folder, we notice that their are no arrows to arrange the news articles. This is because the news folder is automatically sorted.

To can change the way articles are sorted, click 'edit this folder', either in the organiser or on the website and go to the 'Presentation' tab. We currently have the sort order set to 'Newest first', but we can also select from additional options such as manual sort and sort by title. If we select manual sort, save, and refresh the organiser you'll notice we can now move the news articles around with the arrows.

That's all we're going to look at in this video. You'll notice that we can also use the organiser to move items to a different folder and delete items in bulk, but we'll leave these features for you to experiment with.

Thanks for watching this Sunburnt video tutorial, and have fun organising the content on your website!
